Project Details
This project is an an exploration of hacking as a design research method. An old portable cassette player was hacked to record sounds of electromagnetic radiation from everyday devices such as cars, microwave ovens, ATM machines etc. The sound was then used to create a tactile visualization using non-Newtonian fluid. Vibrations of sound create a visual effect on tangible material, mixture of corn starch and water. Video demonstration of the process can be found here and here. Detailed project documentation can be found here. Instructions for creating an electromagnetic sensor are available here. Role: design researcher. Collaborators: Anna Weisling, Joshua A. Fisher
